Whatever your interests may be, the exciting courses we offer in Spanish American, U.S. Latina/o, and Spanish culture, linguistics, literature, translation, creative writing and language will help you achieve your goals.
Bem-Vind@! Welcome! With over 230 million speakers, Portuguese is the 6th most widely-spoken language in the world and is the official language of eight countries. Portuguese is important for business (Brazil is the ninth-largest economy in the world), diplomacy and development (it's the official language of several international organizations), and the arts! Learning Portuguese will give you marketable skills as well as access to rich cultural traditions, literature, and film. The Portuguese program, along with dynamic co-curricular opportunities will help you gain proficiency in this rich language! Venha para o Português!
Professor Ana Merino has won the Premio Nadal, one of the oldest and most prestigious awards in Spanish literature, for her first novel, El mapa de los afectos.
The Premio Nadal is one of the most distinguished awards in the Spanish literary world, awarded annually by the publishing house Ediciones Destino. In the jury's opinion, El mapa de los afectos is "una literatura entroncada en la tradición feminista de escritoras como Lucia Berlin y Siri Hustvedt o con la literatura confesional del David Trueba de Saber perder."["A literature rooted in the feminist tradition of writers such as Lucia Berlin and Siri Hustvedt or with the confessional literature of David Trueba of Knowing how to lose."]
