Biography

Giovanni Zimotti is the Director of Spanish Language Instruction at the University of Iowa. He is from a little Italian village called Cagnano Varano. He holds a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from The University of Alabama. After graduating from the University G. d’Annunzio of Pescara, Italy, he received an M.A. in Romance Languages, Applied Linguistics track and an M.A. in Foreign Languages for Business and International Cooperation from his Alma Mater.  

His research interests include second language acquisition, technology for language acquisition, pragmatics, and critical discourse analysis. Ready, Steady, Spain!, a virtual reality training for study abroad students, is one of his most ambitious projects. He started working on this project as a dissertation project, and he is currently trying to develop a stand-alone version that could be used to acculturate students before their sojourns abroad. Dr. Zimotti is also currently designing various OER textbooks for Spanish. His first OER textbook, Salón de Clase, was released on December 3, 2021.
