Biography

Dr. Pilar Marcé is an Associate Professor of Instruction, who specializes in Spanish for Specific Purposes (SSP). She regularly teaches courses on Business Spanish, Translation into Spanish, Writing, and Hispanic Culture. She loves teaching, and strives to create learning communities, where students can work with collaboratively in projects relevant to them, and their community. Her translation students are currently translating into Spanish the biographies of Latinx immigrants that appear in the Migration is Beautiful website.

She has co-authored several textbooks of Spanish for business (Entorno empresarial, Entorno laboral, Comunicación eficaz para los negocios, Fuera del entorno empresarial), tourism (Entorno turístico, Temas de turismo), and healthcare (Temas de Salud). She received the 2018-2019 Collegiate Teaching Award, and was named Distinguished Associate Professor of Instruction for 2020-2022. Her expertise and research are focused on SSP, translation, teacher training and instructional materials development in SSP.

Currently, she is the Director of Curriculum in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
