Denise Filios, Ph.D.
Denise K. Filios is the Interim DEO of the Department of German, the DEO of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Iowa. She enjoys teaching courses about such topics as Fitness cultures in Spain and the Music of the Hispanic world. She is the author of Performing Women in the Middle Ages: Sex, Gender, and the Iberian Lyric. Her current research studies the construction of space and identity in stories about the 711 conquest in Asturian and early Islamic chronicles.
