Biography

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mariana Mazer is a fifth-year PhD candidate in Spanish at the University of Iowa. Her dissertation addresses and engages with the book as an object, examining different possibilities and relationships the book can have with the narratives contained within. In this project she explores poetry and textuality and the ways in which they engage with the materiality of the book. Her interests also include Latin American and Spanish contemporary literature, with a focus on poetics and short stories. She completed an MFA in Spanish Creative Writing as an Iowa Arts Fellow, and a Graduate Certificate in Book Arts and Book Studies from the University of Iowa. She is a poet, writer, and book maker. Her poetry and short stories have been published in magazines, journals and anthologies in US and Latin America.
